Description:

The object of this postcard game is simple: I will give an obscure, strange word from the more unused parts of the English language and you will draw an illustration of what you think it means on a blank postcard or blank greeting card without looking it up.

For example, if the word was "Kenspeckle", what would you draw? I might doodle a freckled Ken doll or perhaps a man named Ken speckling a canvas with paint.
Or let's say the word was "Smellfungus". You could go with the immediate vision of a mushroom with stink waves coming off it or perhaps a person very happily sniffing his feet. Mm-mm!

The previous words have been: venustation, cataglottism, nubivagant, thalassophilous, and apanthropinization. To see what others have drawn for those, click here.

The point is, there's no wrong way to portray the word because you'll be illustrating it without looking it up first. On the back of the card, explain your thought process and how you came to the drawing that you did. As long as you receive a card with an image that was handmade and its corresponding explanation, you should rate a 5. You do not have to be a good artist; just a sense of humor and fun is required!

After you've made your card, you can look up what it means and have a laugh. It will be fun to see what your partner comes up with - maybe you will have had the same idea!

After sign-ups are complete, I will email out and post below the word that you will draw. You can use any kind of method to portray this word as long as the result is handmade, so collage and mixed-media are fine and dandy.

Participants must have been rated a 5 for at least 15 type 2 or 3 swaps. I am strict about this and have banned people in the past for not having enough.

Finally! If you participated in the previous swaps, please send me a scan or photo of the card you sent and/or received so that I may put them on a blog for everyone to enjoy. If you are not receiving my emails, please check your spam folder.

Please message me or post below any questions.

Years ago we had a game that was called "CALL MY BLUFF" we had to make up the definitions of crazy words like this and bluff the others into thinking you had the right one, Only one person in each game had the card with the right diffinition, it was so much fun. I know I am going to love this game. sign me up ha ha

And this round's word to draw is:

snickersnee

Good luck! Don't look it up before finishing your drawing! Re-read the directions above carefully. Remember to give your partner a five if the card is on time, hand-made, and provides a rationale for how the sender came up with the drawing idea. Also please email me a scan or photo of your drawing at isadorazeldawing@gmail.com I have yet to put a few apanthropanization drawings up, but life has been pretty crazy here with the holidays and other events!

I was watching "The Mikado" and they used the word snickersnee in context, I was flabbergasted! I didn't think it was a real word.

Ha! That's wild, Carmen. Although they do say once you learn a word you begin to hear it everywhere, and that your brain just glossed over it before because it was unknown. Pretty neat!
