Description:

Up for a challenge? Remember I Spy games? A large photo of a zillion items that you have to look through to find things on a list?

This is a variation on that theme.

From the list of 100 things below, take pictures of things that represent the listed items to you.

HERE'S THE CHALLENGE:

As many of the items as you can in the fewest number of shots--NO MORE THAN TEN PRINTS--

Print and mail them to your partner.

Photoshopping is allowed if you know how to composite many items into one picture. Don't just montage a bunch of 4x6's into a mosaic.

Be Creative!

If you can't get everything into ten pictures, try to do as few as you absolutely can.

You may substitute 5 things you are unable to find, but you must write the names of those things you substitute so your partner will know what's missing.

THERE MUST BE ALL 100 ITEMS IN YOUR PHOTOS, NO DUPLICATES.

We'll have a month between sign up deadline and mailing date, but you can start as soon as you sign up because you don't need to know your partner to begin.

No no-sends, 4.8 rating required... ...Newbies with photography experience are welcome, but you MUST message me to let me know you want to join.

ohmahgah this is so awesome. just what I need. I love sewing but I soooo miss photoshop for fun. I use it for work, but work is boring. thank you cyn. wonderful idea!

JennyTheArtist 03/10/2008 #

Is it possible to make a collage, not in photoshop - a real collage, with images that are not your own photos? Or is this strictly a photo swap?

vee41dmb 03/10/2008 #

um does it have to be 100 diffrent things or can one item count as more than one like a purple popiscle.. would be purple and wet= etc wondering because there are so many colors included, etc Vee

bundabergsangel 03/11/2008 #

I'd absaloutly love to enter this, but to be honest I'd be a bit disappointed if I got just a peice of card with a bunch of different photos sized down and slapped together to make one. I'd love it if we had to arrange the items then photograph them, or something like that.

I was also wondering what vee41dmb said, could we put like... a black crow, and so that's #18 & #80 taken care of?

pahasiga 03/11/2008 #

I don't really have a truck or air travel handy to arrange them as I want... :P So obviously some photos would not be as interesting as possible. I'm still thinking...

pahasiga 03/11/2008 #

Oh, could a flying black crow be for 18, 46, 48, 58, 80 and 83?

twobluecrows 03/11/2008 #

Ok--I can see I should have given a little more detail...

no duplicates, and --one item for every number--that's 100 things--no combining

(so no flying black and crow together pahasiga!--though that sounds like another swap to me! How many things can we apply to one photograph?...later!)

JennyTheArtist --no collages, all your own photography

there are five substitutes allowed for things you cant find or photograph--and...

you can use anything that represents the items to you

--for instance, you could take pictures of a car, truck bike and some other outdoor or random colored things in a parking lot and if a plane happens to be going overhead and you get that in the pic--success!

air travel could be a toy helicopter, hot air baloon, zeppelin, space shuttle, brochure from a travel agent, or from a travel magazine, there are lots of model cars and things out there in the world--this is the challenge and "be creative" part! :)

pahasiga --if you can't put a real truck on the couch with your other items and photograph them, use a toy truck, or a magazine image of one--but you have to take a picture of the items together, no cut-out collages

bundabergsangel --I hope you will join! One of the rules up top is to not make a photo mosaic of sized down copies of pics. There is a real challenge here to photograph representational items in clusters in as few pictures as possible. I would also be disappointed with something unchallenging!

hmmm...I hope I've covered everything now. Read the rules carefully and go take pictures! :)

pahasiga 03/12/2008 #

Will we need to write down, what is what? Behind photos or on photos? Or is it up to sender to decide whether these photos fulfill requirements? ;)

pahasiga 03/13/2008 #

Oh, one more question - if I have a book where on one page are four pictures of spring, summer, fall and winter, would that count for these four (but for "book", I'd need another book?) or only one?

twobluecrows 03/13/2008 #

pahisiga, I think a note attached ot the pics would be helpful, and as for the pages of a book with the seasons, I'd rather see four things that represent the seasons, like a silk pr plastic tulip, a summer toy, a winter glove or mitten, and a fall leaf or maybe a rake for fall. It's too easy to take pictures of magazine photos or book pictures, but if you absolutely have no other option, it would do for a couple of items.

Amandalee 03/25/2008 #

Hi twoblue, I will pm the following to you as well :)

I have been watching this swap wondering if I would be able to complete it. I am having a GREAT time, I haven't had this much fun in ages, but I do have 2 questions:

1) For the word "Spring" - do we have to relate it to the season or could I use an actual spring? (Same for the word letter.)

2) If we were able to ge these items into as few as 3 - 5 shots, would our partner feel cheated?

Thanks so much! Amanda

twobluecrows 03/25/2008 #

The pictures are up to your interpretation of the words, so anything that means "spring" to you is fine, just because it's grouped with Winter and Summer shouldn't hold you back--the other rule is to be creative, so its good!

If you could actually get everything in one, it'd be fantastic! The ISpy images are our inspiration and they have a zillion things in one picture. The challenge here is to try to get as many of the 100 things in as few pictures as possible with a max limit of ten prints. You MUST have all 100 of the listed items in your photos, however you divide them is up to you.

I allowed photoshopping for those of you who are able to composite things into a picture that can't really be there--If you have a photo of a truck, and want to photoshop it onto a summer beach picture with a mermaid in the back wearing pearls talking on a cell phone against a blue sky with an airplane passing overhead...get the "picture"?

LOL :)

Cyn

Amandalee 03/25/2008 #

LOL! Thanks so much! I will join for sure then :)

pahasiga 03/26/2008 #

I don't think I have been before in a swap where, the more things you send, the more disappointed partner. :D

guinstar 03/28/2008 #

if i had found this swap before and had more time for sign ups to think about it, i would sign up. very cool swap tho!

Amandalee 03/28/2008 #

This was so totally awesome, the whole family got involved in this one!

I finished the swap today - I am not saying exactly how many pics I took, But it is more than 1, less than 10, LOL :)

Thanks for such a neat swap, will you host more of these?

twobluecrows 03/29/2008 #

Partners are assigned! Let the fun begin!

Pleas post copies of your final pictures either through links to your Flickr or other photo hosting sites, or in the gallery here. If you upload them here, please limit the size to 4" x 6" and 72 dpi--that way we can see them without scrolling all over the place.

Cyn

twobluecrows 03/29/2008 #

Amandalee, I'll see how this one goes and certainly consider doing it again if all goes well!

pahasiga--you're right! Me either! LOL Cyn

twobluecrows 03/30/2008 #

Ok, I pondered it, then fleasha suggested it, so now we have a Flickr Group of our own to share the pictures in. I've sent you all invites, so post whenever you are ready, and I hope you all will, I'm dying to see how everyone interprets this challenge! Cyn

twobluecrows 03/30/2008 #

How do I share a photo with a group in Flickr?

Easy! If you're a member of the group, add your photo(which is hosted in your free or paid Flickr account) to the group pool. (If not, join the group, because only group members can contribute to the group pool.)

The easiest way add a photo to a group is to go to the photo's page and click the "Send to Group" button between the photo title and the photo. Then choose the group you want to send it to, and you're done!

Only you and the group administrators can remove a photo from a group pool.

Note: If you share a photo that you marked as private with a group you are a member of, it's as if other group members have full access to that photo. They can add comments, notes, and tags. The photo isn't displayed for people who aren't members of the group.

How do I post a photo in a discussion in a Flickr group?

Click a photo you want to add to a discussion and then click "All Sizes" if it is available above the photo. Choose the size you want. (Most people recommend Small so that the post you add it to won't take a long time to download.)

Scroll down to the HTML code near the bottom of the page, right-click on that box and select Copy from the shortcut menu. Go to where you want to paste the photo into the discussion post, right-click, and select Paste. (Thanks Chrisser.)

Amandalee 03/31/2008 #

I didn't receive an invite to a flickr group I don't think :(

What is the name of the group please?

Amandalee 03/31/2008 #

LOL nevermind, yes I did, I didn't know we got mail in flickr, LOL!

twobluecrows 04/ 8/2008 #

Here's the site for the Flickr Group

pahasiga 04/14/2008 #

What an exhausting swap! But now, after about 50 photos and three bowls of ice cream (all because of this swap) I think I have got my photos at last.

FarStarr 04/19/2008 #

I have only taken one photo so far, and it has 56 items in it!! I'm expecting to have to take at least 2 more though to get the rest.

pahasiga 04/21/2008 #

I'm sure your photos are going to be great, FarStarr! I must admit I myself used a lot of children items. And spring-summer-fall-autumn were my child's idea, too. (But I will not show my photos yet.)

twobluecrows 04/22/2008 #

There are some great pics in the Flickr Group already, but you don't have to post now, you can wait until your partner gets them if you like.

I managed to get all but 21 items in two pictures so far. The rest are going to take a little photoshopping I think!

Cyn

FarStarr 04/29/2008 #

I did it in 3!! Yeah!!

pahasiga 05/14/2008 #

Mine are now in Flickr group, too.
