Description:

Amigurumi is a japanese crochet style in which you crochet tightly to create little stuffed toys. Often these are cute little animals, but you can stick eyes on almost anything and make it look cute.

This swap is a repeat of one I hosted almost a year ago, and the rules are almost the same! In this swap you will handmake and then send one medium sized (About 8 inches tall) or two small (4 to 5 inches) amigurumi softies to your partner. As is most traditional, these should be crocheted and not knitted.

There are a number of free patterns available on the internet, but you can also buy patterns from independent designers for a great price! Since the cost of this swap is likely to be low (a little yarn and a lot of time) I encourage everyone to shop around for a cute pattern to use that matches your partners interests. Etsy is my favorite place for amigurumi patterns (check out a few of my favorites: anapaulaoli and needlenoodles. Sellers will email you the pattern soon after you order it, so you can get started in no time. Of course, You are welcome to use your own patterns as well!

For more inspiration and ideas, check out the flickr amigurumi group .

And here are a few free patterns to get you started. (Feel free to comment with more!)

This is an international swap for swappers with ratings of 4 or above. If you are a newbie and would like to participate, please contact me or I will have to boot you from the swap. There is plenty of time between getting your partner and sending your softies, but make sure that you have enough time to commit to making an item by hand.

I've seen these adorable little things everywhere on swap-bot & on flickr. I don't crochet (I've tried it several times), so I'm unable to make one for myself.

I want to take your amigurumi on our motorcycle travels this summer & take pictures of it in all different places.

I don't really know what sort of amigurumi I'd like (the shape or animal). maybe a rat or a dog or a mermaid? We can work something out, I'm sure.

In return, I'd like to offer you a top quality Dotee Doll based on your profile, OR anything you may want or need.

I hope that some wonderful swap-botter will be able to help me out with this. PM me, please!

Can we use patterns for this swap or do we have to make up our own?

bluepima 03/ 8/2008 #

hmmm, I re-read the description and I think it answers my question... we can do either?

Would so very desperately love to join this swap--about a year ago I saw an absolutely gorgeous Totoro amigurumi--but while I can crochet, I'm a complete idiot at making stuffies appear from my needles. I want an amigurumi! But whatever I could swap in return wouldn't be anywhere near as cool.

Bluepima,

you can use a pattern or make up your own. Either way is fine.

Hello all! Just a reminder that the swap ends tomorrow! If you are still finishing up and won't be able to send on time, please let me know, and I can pass that info on to your partner.

I am excited about joining you all!! I am new to swap-bot and amigurumi and hopefully can get some tips on my new craft.

Bluepima sent me two adorable snails with their own mushroom...all in a nifty wood-themed fabric bag. How great!! Thanks!
