Description:
How it's done: Use a new journal, blank book, composition book or something similar, 80 pages at least. On the front cover, write what the journal is for and who you are, on the back page write your name and address and where to send the journal home when it is full. Then, in the journal, write the beginning of a story starting with the words "Once upon a time". Keep in mind this is only the start of a story, not the whole thing. After writing 4 or 5 pages of the story, leave your swap partner a sentence fragment to pick up the storyline at ("....when all of a sudden"....). Upon receiving your story/journal, your partner will read over your story and add 4 or 5 more pages to it, leaving their partner a sentence fragment to start the next part of the story at. While this is the first story journal swap, there will be many of these hosted in order to eventually get these journals home to their originators, full of a big long story, pieced together by many creative folks like themselves. Please, keep the story content to a PG-13 rating. This swap will be USA-only, due to postage and swap receipt/timing issues. If this initial swap is well-received, I may consider hosting an international version in the future. Rating minimum is 4.95; flakers will be culled before partners are assigned. Newbies with well-filled-out profiles are welcome, as long as their rating is high enough. and have completed a bare-bones minimum of 5 mail-based swaps. Hi I'm wondering what the requirements for newbies are? Do we have to have a certain amount of #3 swaps? I would looooove to do this swap if I can!

@erikawithak - newbies are welcome, as long as their rating is high enough. A minimum of 5 mail swaps will be added to the requirements for this swap, Thanks for bringing it to my attention!

I would love to do this but I have a question the 4 or 5 pages is that front and back. I have a pet peeve about writing on the back of pages. I'd like the backs left alone so that I can decorate them to match the story when it gets back to me.

@Hollydays - good question! I'd say that can be up to the writers preference, just as long as they leave their partner a good base story to work off of.

Well my story is done and ready to go just need a partner I did write out 6 pages hope that was ok.

So will we be writing in the journal of EVERY person who signs up? We just always send to our 'partner' whenever we finish up writing in a book? So potentially we would be sending out at least 6 journals (that's how many have signed up so far).

@soyprincesa2 - oh goodness no - you're only sending out one journal, as you'll only have one partner in this swap :)

I think she means that there will have to be 6 different swaps before the journals come home. I would love to join this if it were set up to where the same people were in every swap- but I worry about sending to someone and never getting my journal back at the end. If for example I send to someone who has not committed to completing the entire round of swapping (say 6-7 rounds) to get the journals home.

What I meant was... is this like a circle journal where you end up sending all the journals to EVERYONE in the swap... but you always send to your assigned partner. So every few weeks I would get a new journal in the mail and then a week later after writing in it I would always send it to my assigned partner until they all eventually make it back to their original owner. If we only have one partner write in the book that would mean our story is begun by us.. middle by our partner and then we end it after it's returned to us?
