Description:

I'm going on record, one last time, and reiterating: I have NEVER done a journal swap and, frankly, am guessing. However, I WILL put every ounce of creativity in my journal so my partner will get my best effort, I promise.

That being said, here we go! =D

The nuts and bolts: This journal will be sent to your partner, never to be seen by you (the creator) again. The size we'll be using is about 9X7, like this or similar. The example has 100 sheets (200 pages, front and back) and I think this is a fine target. Pages should be sturdy enough to support mixed media; if you plan on watercolors or acrylic, gesso being necessary, etc.

Please make the cover pleasing to the eye (like my picture for this swap. Cute, huh?) Begin with a title page/contact info/swap-bot user name. This way your partner knows who to thank for this OTT journal!

And now, the fun stuff!

In trying to educate myself on how journals work, I (sorta) know that what I envision for this swap is a combination art, text, photo journal.

Please include at least 20 pictures. These can be: taken by you, illustrations created by you, collaged by you. Art off the web is fine, so long as you credit the artist.

Next! Please include quotes or poems regarding our beloved topic. (Kudos if you include the person quoted’s marker! lol) We’re looking to inspire here, so be inspiring!

And to stimulate your partner's little grey cells, here’s a list of prompts. Pick a few (let’s say 5 or more, as we have plenty o’ space) and make sure to leave space for them to respond.

• Today was sunny/wet and decorate the page accordingly

• A poem, haiku, short story

• Being here today makes me think of...

• What I want my headstone to say

• A bit of history (for the cemetery you're visiting)

• A ghost story

• Do you fear death

• If money were no object, I'd have X marker

• Memories of loved ones passed

• (X) made me cry; (X) made me laugh, etc

• The cemetery I visit most

• The cemetery I WANT to visit most

• The song going through my head

• Ever been in a crypt and if yes, tell us about it

• Night visits ("Can you leave?") (Ask me if you want the story.)

• Seasons in the cemetery

  • A letter from the 'other side'

PahLEEZE! Call me out, add, delete, let it all hang out in the comments. I wanna make this a great swap and welcome your thoughts!

The sign up time will be long, but the mailing time will be a week. I've seen too many journal swaps gone bad, so I will contact people who have joined the swap BEFORE assigning partners to see if their journal is done. If it is not, that person will be dropped, period. No ifs ands or buts.

Any questions, comments, complaints, please comment below, or PM me if you’re shy.

Fantastic idea - on my watch list!!! Perhaps you should say that the journals Must be started as soon as possible and continue adding to them until send date.

Just one question - Is there a minimum number of pages to be completed - perhaps complete 100 pages and the other 100 pages for their partner to fill in and if we want to return the journal to the original owner - just a suggestion.

Interesting question.

So, ladies, do we have a minimum decorated pages? I think 100 is too high, personally, but I could see at least 50.

Thoughts?

I'm inexperienced... as far as journals go... but 100 pages does sound crazy ambitious to me. just my two cents. watching...

Still watchin'........

I'm inexperience also, this is my first journal swap, but 100 pages doesn't sound like to much at all considering we don't have to have it done until the end of May. I could do 50 decorated pages is good. I've done 5 so far. LOL I'm having fun with this journal. Just a question though, are we supposed to return the journal to the original owner? I thought we were supposed to fill up the journal and send it to our partner and keep the one we get not return them. I'm confused. LOL

sebastian122 01/19/2012 #

You send it to your partner, and never see it again. They send one to you to keep for heifer and heifer and all the cows.

ambritsmom40 01/19/2012 #

Oh good because living in the State of Confusion like I do is very hard to do, but I don't have to pay taxes so I'm happy most of the time. Baby cows are so cute :-)

So are we putting the prompts for THEM to fill out? Or do we write it out?

Dserene1 04/ 7/2012 #

I'm so new to swap-bot that the idea of a journal swap scares me, but I'm also intrigued so I'm watching with interest...

ambritsmom40 04/ 7/2012 #

I think the prompts are for us to fill out. But I have been leaving a little space on the page for my partner to fill out if they want.

bobilani 04/12/2012 #

Oh this sounds fun! I do have the same question as asked above by @CajunLady about the prompts.

sebastian122 04/24/2012 #

I'm going to leave the prompts up to the swapper/creator.

Personally, I thought the prompts were to be left blank for the receiver to fill in as they'd like. This stems from the fact that I've never done one of these before.

Honestly, I see this whole thing as a journal to be made for your partner, for them to do with as they want. The only bit of "me" my partner is getting is the work I put into the decor of the journal. The rest is all on them.

catsandscales 04/25/2012 #

Ok, I'm in... this sounds way too fun to pass up. ;)

By the way the link to the sample journal isn't working... repost perhaps? I'm sure I can find something based on those dimensions though.

catsandscales 04/25/2012 #

Would a 5.5X8 inch moleskine notebook be ok to use?

ambritsmom40 04/29/2012 #

Oh no now I'm so worried that I'm doing it all wrong :-( I've answered the prompts myself and put alot of myself into it. I totally misunderstood what I was supposed to do I guess.

sebastian122 05/ 3/2012 #

@ambritsmom40 It's fine! No worries!! How you do it is up to you.

@catsandscales yes, the moleskine sounds fine. =D

catsandscales 05/22/2012 #

AAUGH! I don't have time to finish after seriously 5 parties within 2 weekends and more to come!! So I will have to bow out for this round. =(
