I have never made a zentangle mandala (zendala)- but I think they are SO COOL! For this swap you will make one zendala for one partner. If you've never made one before that's ok - we will learn together!

Your zendala is to be made on a sturdy base that measures 6"x6" (I use watercolor paper/board for my zentangles). For this first one let's stick to black and white - then maybe I'll do this again for a colored version.

For this swap the zendala needs to be "kaleidoscopic" - see links for examples. You will be dividing a circle into sections and the sections will mirror each other - please ask if you have any questions on this.

This link takes you to the Flickr account of "Jo in NZ" - she does FABULOUS work and has a series of photos that show one of her zendalas in steps. She also shares some templates - feel free to use one! CLICK HERE

Here is a website with some kaleidoscope coloring pages - I thought these might provide some really good inspiration too (there are four web pages of coloring sheets)! CLICK HERE

This blog gives you step-by-step photos of a fantastic kaleidoscopic zendala - it is beautiful! Just scroll down when you get to the site to begin with Step 1 and then work your way back up to the top of the page for the finished product: CLICK HERE

I'm new to these so ask if you have any questions at all! Thanks!

Oh Laura! Love this but it looks like tons of work! Not sure I can find enough time in a day to do this, specially with newborn in house!

I finally sat down tonight with my compass and figured out a really quick and easy way to divide a circle into 12 equal sections - from there I divded some of the outside rings of the cricle into even more equal sections. If anyone wants the simple way to do this just let me know! Now, I can't promise you a quick and easy way to FILL the sections with zentangles... LOL

Do we need to cut the paper into a circle or leave it square?

You can cut it into a circle or leave it square - it's up to you. I left mine as a square.
